There is this girl, Sally, who is really sarcastic. She hangs out with me and my other two friends. Super annoying, but... I deal with her.
There is a foreign girl (Kelly) that goes to our school that Sally has been translating for. Kelly doesn't speak English really well but she seems very sweet so whenever I see her in the halls I try to be friendly with her and say "hello." She sat with us once or twice at lunch. Otherwise I don't talk to her at all. Of course, because she doesn't speak English.
Kelly added me on Facebook, and, trying to be nice, I wrote on her wall and said, "Hi! :-)" She posted back on my wall and said hello as well. Was I weird doing this? I was just trying to be nice, because she added me. Of course Sally had to make a sarcastic comment on what I said to Kelly and say "FUCK OFF KELLY LOL."
Having a cynical disposition like Sally has, is a character flaw.
Ask yourself How do you feel about contacting Kelly on Facebook? were you sincere? Would you be sincere?
Might be difficult at first maintaining a conversation with Kelly for now but she has to learn the language eventually. If she is genuinely friendly and shows good character why not develope a frienship? You don't have to over do it to be a friend. A good friend gives you his or her quality time with pleasure.
Many a time from a bad beginning great friendships have sprung up.

christina answered Thursday October 1 2009, 6:14 am: I don't think that's weird. You were just saying hi & being nice. Most people add others on Facebook & then forget that they've added them & never talk with each other. It's great that you said hi. Maybe you can try & get to know her better. :) Just don't forget to be like that in person.
Also, is she talking to Sally in her first language, or is she speaking broken English? I think if she's speaking in her own language, that's a bad thing. It's best for her to learn English by trying to speak it. If she's just going to use her native language, it'll become harder for her to learn English, and it'll take her longer to converse with you. Just a tip! :) [ christina's advice column | Ask christina A Question ]
CruxGuitar answered Thursday October 1 2009, 5:43 am: Saying "Hi" is not weird
but saying something like "Hi ;) can I touch you here and there and whats your #" thats fu*!ing werid now
your not weird, I'd say sally is weird and maybe sally wants your balls...seriously
otherwise, if you like this non-english speaker, try other things, hinting to play tic tac toe, or draw silly things with her. convey her willpower to yours and all is victory my friend. [ CruxGuitar's advice column | Ask CruxGuitar A Question ]
