Question Posted Thursday September 17 2009, 8:25 pm
I really want snakebite piercings (the lip peircing on both sides of your bottom lip). The problem is, I'm worried about how much it will hurt. I do have my ears, nose and belly button pierced, so it's not like I'm a piercing virgin. How is the pain compared to getting your nose/belly pierced? Is there anything I can do to make it less painful or maybe even afterwards, like tylenol to help? Also, how do you brush your teeth afterwards, like the bottom? Thanks!

Keep It There For Ehhh..Five Minutes. I'm Too Shy About Pain So I Didn't Keep It On Any Longer Than That. Itll Feel Wierd Tho. Put The Needle On The Place you Want It Pierced And Shove It Through. I Felt SOMETHING But Honestly I Didn't Even Know It Went Through XD Put Ur Finger At The Other End SO It Won't Hurt When The Needle Penetrates The Last Layer of Skin. :] It Doesn't Really Hurt Much If At All!! I Pierced My Nose Also And Piercing your Nose Hurts Worse :D and What you Need To Do Is Put Small Studs In There At First. The Skin Needs To Heal Before You Put An Actual Lip Ring In. It'll Be Easier To brush your Teeth With The Studs In Anyway. Hope I Helped :] [ TheRandomJuggalette's advice column | Ask TheRandomJuggalette A Question ]
Trauma answered Friday September 18 2009, 12:51 am: I've had three lip piercings, but I lost the middle one so now I only have snakebites. I've also had my nose pierced before, & I can say that for me, the nose piercing hurt a lot worse than the lip. It really depends on your pain tolerance, but since you have other piercings, you should be able to handle it. I'm not saying it doesn't hurt, though, but it's mainly just a sharp pinching feeling. Afterward, though, it will probably throb a little, & your lip might swell. Don't eat or drink anything with dairy in it for 24 hours after getting it done, like cheese, milk, etc... This will help lower the risk of infection. You don't really need to do anything special while brushing your teeth, & I don't remember ever having a problem with that. Just rinse your mouth out really well afterward. My piercer recommended half water/half antibacterial mouthwash.
Just wanted to add this, too: After getting it pierced, my piercer always says to suck on ice if the stinging is bothering you. I would go to Dairy Queen & get an Arctic rush, though, & let the little ice things sit in my lip for a minute, but that's just me. lol. [ Trauma's advice column | Ask Trauma A Question ]

Honestly, getting a lip piercing doesn't hurt that bad. It just feels like someone's pinching the inside of your lip. It hurts for a second, and then it's over. It will hurt afterward though, so I do recommend that you take some Tylenol after. However, keep in mind that what hurts for me might tickle you, and vice versa. :)
As far as care goes, you just brush normally. But, whenever something touches your lip, you need to clean it right after. Usually you would use a saline solution, and mouth wash. Don't drink alcohol, don't drink soda, and don't eat crunchy food. Stick to soft foods like ice cream, jello, pudding, etc. Crunchy foods can get it infected. You can't kiss anyone or engage in oral for 2 months.
After 2 months, you can switch the ring, and go about your life normally. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me. I suggest you ask the piercer though, because they're professionals and I'm not. :) [ christina's advice column | Ask christina A Question ]
