Whats the difference?

Question Posted Wednesday July 15 2009, 4:22 pm

Whats the difference between wedding bands and engagement rings? Are two really necessary? Do you wear them together, and if so would that not look odd? If you dont, which do you wear, and does that defeat the purpose of having two separate rings? Also, what is an eternity band? Im just so confused!

I would have to argue with some of the others. An engagement ring is not necessary at all. Sometimes, there isn't money for things like that, so the guy will propose without one. I have one, though :)

The wedding band is exchanged on your wedding day. Some people wear both afterwards (I plan on it... no way I'm putting away my diamond!), some only wear a band. My mom wears neither, but she wears the ring my dad gave her for their 15th anniversary. It's all personal choice.

An eternity band is a ring set with diamonds the entire way around. It's often given on a special occasion in the relationship (like an anniversary milestone).

Favourite quote from my high school physics teacher:

"Never get a woman a diamond ring. It's just an overpriced rock with a refractive index of 2.42. Get her something useful instead."

Well the difference between a engagement ring and a wedding ring is an engagement ring has got diomands or gems set in it, and a wedding band is usually just a plain ring.

Both are necessary as a woman is given her engagement ring when the man proposes then she is given her wedding ring when she gets married.

After your married some people may choose to wear there engagemnet ring and some people choose not to. It depends on the person, there is not a rule that says you always have to wear your engagement ring you can just keep it in a safe place.

If some people choose not to wear their engagement ring it does not defeat the object of having both because she wears them at different points in the relationship.

An eternity ring is what a man gives to his wife on a important anniversary. It is a ring that has gems in it that are the same cut and size and it symbolise everlasting love.

well engagement rings have jewels on them and wedding bands are just rings that are like bands if that makes since...you get the wedding band when you get married and you should probably wear them together after your married...i have no idea what a eternity band is.

yes, you do need both. The engagement ring is the ring he puts on your finger the day he proposes to you. this is the super fancy pretty one.

THEN, you wear it everyday, and on your wedding day, when you say I DO, he puts the wedding band on your finger. YOU wear both. it doesnt look odd. google it and see some pictures.
