My dad is taking the fall for my stupid mistake...

Question Posted Friday June 26 2009, 11:41 pm

I am fifteen and i'm a girl. first of all, i know watching porn** is wrong... but i did it just to try it. apparently it jacked up our computer and my mom found out. she emediately pointed the finger at my dad who surprisingly told her that it was him. they got into a fight but they made up. i'm pretty sure my dad knows that it was me...but he hasn't said anything to me or even acted weird around me? my mom still has no clue that it ME who was watching porn on our computer and shes making my dad pay 200 dollars in repairs for MY mistake! now i feel so guilty and its awkard just being around him.. should i confront my dad about it or pay for the repairs? or should i come clean that it was me to my mom? or should i stay quiet and hope it all blows over? :)

In my own opinion I think you should tell both parents. Maybe one at a time if you think it would be easier. Sure it will be awkward for awhile but things will get back to normal probably pretty quick. It is possible that your dad did look at pornography but if your dad is covering for you and he really didn't then your mom just got hurt for nothing. Pornography is very hurtful to most women and she probably feels like she isn't good enough now. Pornography has actually caused a lot of marriages to end. I dont know how your mom feels about it but if she is like most women she is probably pretty hurt and feeling bad about herself. Also, if your dad knows it was you then he knows your not coming clean about it and he may be disapointed or hurt. You will probably get a talk from one or both of your parents but once thats over things will go back to normal and you will be guilt free. :) Its the right thing to do. About the pay... if it cant be fixed at home by any of you, you should probably help pay and if it turns out your dad was looking at porn too you could split the cost between the two of you (since you wouldn't know who broke it) so your mom doesn't have to. I know it will be hard but I promise you it will all work out in the end. I'm sorry this happened. I really do wish you the best of luck. Also, I know you arent asking about this but just know how dangerous and addicting pornography can be. I hope this helps.

Love, Tandra

ps. How am I doing? If you would like, I would appreciate feedback. I am new to the site. Thanks. :)

I would confront both your parents about it, no matter how awkward it will be. Whether you actually were the one that messed up the computer or not, you should still fess up to what you did.

Your parents will probably be mad, but in the end, they will be happy that you came clean about it and were honest.

Well, to begin with, why don't you repair the computer yourself? If a virus is a problem here, then it's pretty simple to fix your computer, and since you'll be the one who is fixing it, it will cost nothing--except one or two hours of your time. I think that it will help you feel somewhat less guilty, too.

Besides that, don't forget that it is possible that your father also may have happened to watch porn on that computer, too. So it may not have been you who happened to visit a "wrong" website.

And about confronting, if you have the courage to reveal everything, then I advise you to talk with your father first. One of your advantage is that you are a girl--his daughter. Fathers typically quite soft on their daughters and hard on their sons. Nothing major will happen if you confront your father, although I must say that admitting that you watch porn to an adult is really beyond impossible. I admire you for even think of doing that to your parent, lol. Good job there.

maybe your dad DOES watch it and is feeling just as
guilty as you are.

I don't really know your family so let's look at the different options:

1. Tell your Dad
- This would be extremely awkward, but it would show your dad that you are an honest person. Chances are he would tell your mom which could makes things even worse

2. Tell your mom
-Again, this would be awkward and it would make your mom feel guilty about yelling at your dad. Also, your parents would have to pay for the repairs anyways. and if you tell your mom she would probably tell your dad and it could make you seem dishonest.

Either way, you need to decide what to do based on your own feelings

feel free to message me if you need additional help and sorry this wasn't very helpful

I would talk to your dad about this. Ask why he covered for you, and why he's willing to take the fall for something you did?

I'm sure he's doing it out of love, and will probably turn down your money, but I'm pretty sure that if he pays the $200 that it's only fair you find a way to pay him back.

I understand you're curious, but next time wait til you have a computer of your own so that you can look at that type of stuff.
