belly button piercing: I pierced my own bellybutton and now I am having problems.
Question Posted Wednesday June 3 2009, 2:54 pm
i pierced my own belly button a few days ago with a really thick, steralized needle, and i took it out and immediately put a normal gaged ring in.. the ring was my friends from when she went to get her belly button pierced, and i steralized it..
please dont yell at me, i already know its bad to pierce your own belly button..
ive been putting peroxide on it, and triple anti bacterial ointment on it. mostly peroxide though, and ive been cleaning it a lot. the first two days it was like oozing yellow/ whitish stuff, and it dried up as crust.. but i kept cleaning it and it went away...
now it just hurts. It is SOOOOOOO SOAR. like litterally, i cant even sit up straight in my seat at school, i know its supposed to be soar for a few weeks, but i feel like mine is unbelieveably painfuler than all my friends..
also, it looks better but it looks like the skin around the hole is peeling a little bit.. is that normal?
i want to know if i am cleaning it out right, and is there anything i can do to ease some of this pain?? like, anything i can put on it?? i just basically dont know how to handle it.. so if someone could help me learn how to take care of it and what to do and not to do with it, thatd be great :) thanks...
oh also, my mom doesnt know, and she was gonna take me in december to get it done for my birthday.. but i REEEALLY wanted it for the summer.. so i was wondering.. if i take it out after summer in like september, will it close up for me to get it repierced by december?? tthanksss =)

you can leave it in, but won't it be odd in december when your mom takes you to get it pierced to discover it's already done?
you basically just set yourself up for a fight with your mom- she's going to see that she can't trust you and that your not patient/mature enough to just wait a few extra months for a piece of metal to be stuck through a part of your body

Personally, I'd tak it out before summer, and let it heal. Its better to get it done professionally, and over winter so it can heal correctly, so by summer you don't have to worry about pain and crusting.
If you end up keeping it, and your mom sees it, she might not take you to get it done professionally. Do you really want to risk it?
I don't have the link, but if you look up 'belly button peircing' on google, there's a site that gives you stories from girls who've pierced their belly buttons themselves, and the infections they've gotton. If you start to get stomach pain and naseua, you may have a very dangerous infection.
For your health, I'd take it out and wait for your mom to take you.
nerissa answered Wednesday June 3 2009, 3:19 pm: i have my belly button pierced as well. the best advice i can give is to clean it with saline solution. harsh ointments and the peroxides will clean it but it will keep the soar open. its hard to explain. i used saline solution. thats what the people from the tattoo shops recommended. it sounds weird since it is mainly used for contact leanses. but believe me. it works the best. hope i helped :) [ nerissa's advice column | Ask nerissa A Question ]
