New to birth control

Question Posted Monday May 25 2009, 9:38 pm

I've just started taking TriNessa and I'm still getting used to taking it at exactly 9:00 every night. I've been on it for about 10 days now and a few of those nights I would forget to take it at exactly 9:00, but I would remember around 9:15 or 9:30. Will it still be effective if I take it just 15-30 minutes late. (I obviously will try to take it at exactly 9.)

Also, I was wondering when it will be safe for me to have sex without using a condom?

Thanks!

I'm glad that your are smart enough to be on birth control and being so responsible about it.

No, 15 minutes or so won't make a difference.

But YES you still need to use a condom!!!!!!!!!!!!

The pill does not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases. And if you're not worried about that because you think you and your partner are 100% clean- think again.

STD's can be there without any symptoms present. So one of you could've have gotten something without even realizing it.

Also- partners aren't always 100% monogymous. I had a friend in college who had a serious boyfriend of 3 years so she thought she was safe with just the pill- but the guy cheated once and got an STD- and gave it to her!

That STD will stay with her for life now. Some can even make you sterile- ie- you won't be able to have kids.

So don't risk it. You're already being responsible, go the extra step and use a condom too. It won't hurt to have a backup birth control anyway.

Okay to answer your first question, yes, it will still be effective!! 15-30 mins is no big deal!! Just make sure if you're later than that to take it at the exact time the next day or you're chances of getting pregnant will increase. Birth control is 99% effective if you take it at the same exact time everyday and it decreases the later you are. Now you are techniqually supposed to wait atleast a week for the birth control to go into effect although I reccommend you still use condoms because birth control is not 100%! Hope i helped! :)

Okay, I never have taken TriNessa, but I have taken other forms of birth control for two years.

It's no big deal even if you skip a couple of hours every now and then. If you take it roughly the same time every day you'll be fine.

As for the sex, I wouldn't wait a week. I'd wait a month. Why? Because it takes a month for the hormones to start shifting so it can cause your body to think you're pregnant. That doesn't work in a week. It usually starts working out after you had your period the first month at the end of the pack.

You can have sex now, but the birth control won't be 99% effective. I don't know the percentage right now, but I know it's lower than that.

Hope I helped.

Yes it is still effective if you are 15-30 minutes late. Its not that big of a deal. Just try not to forget it for more than an hour.

After a week of being on birth control (without missing a day) you will be able to have sex.

Hope i helped =]

It will be safe to have sex w/o a condom after one week and as long as you take it within the hour you'll be fine =]
