And if your workout is really intense you should eat something during the workout aswell.
When you eat before exercise, you're giving your body immediate energy to use. But you shouldn't eat a whole tonne of food, eat something light like a whole wheat bagel. If you don't eat properly before the workout then your body will take fat from your internal organs.
Once you have finished your exercise you should eat something light in carbs and rich in protein. If you don't, your body will go into a state of hunger and you'll be very tempted to eat the whole contents of your fridge.
If your workout is very long and very intense then take a break halfway through and have some sports drink or an energy gel. Bread, juice, fruit or an energy bar work too. [ katerinche_xx's advice column | Ask katerinche_xx A Question ]

You would usually eat before you work out then, so you don't tire too quickly. A lot of people work out in the evening, that would boost your metabolism so you burn more calories while you sleep. You would work out after dinner then. [ Myrrha's advice column | Ask Myrrha A Question ]

Have fun working out =]
