Heavy strapless gown

Question Posted Sunday March 15 2009, 2:21 pm

I just bought a strapless dress for prom. I tried it on and it fit perfectly. The thing is the dress is very heavy and I was wondering if anyone knew any tricks on how to keep it up. It wouldn't fall of my chest, but it falls lower than it should.

Most strapless dresses need to be custom fitted for the BEST fit, so take it to a taylor for the best fit. The top should be snug - but not so snug it causes 'arm-pit fat'.

The better support your strapless bra gives you...the better supported the dress will be to stay up. Try to find a strapless bra with a long waist. (Victoria Secret)

Strapless wedding dresses often add 'boning' to keep the heavy bodice up. This might also be an option for your dress.

The double sided tape is great!

Oh - be sure and do the 'arm lift' test. See if anything is popping out to say 'hello' as you are dancing with your arms up or hugging someone taller.

This may be hard to find, but there is double sided tape and products like it that are for holding clothing in place. Why do you think the movie stars and models look so perfect? lol If you can find it, it will hold the top the the dress in place where you want it, and not have to worry about showing a lil too much.

You could do a few things.

1) where it a few times. Get used to it and the style.

2) go to a tailor or sew it yourself at home.

3) Safety pins. Safety pin the hem of the dress so that it stops shorter.

I'm sorry that's really all you can do about this. For future reference, always try on a dress before you buy it and make sure you move around in it and only buy it if it's a comfortable fit. Hope I helped a bit!

If you're wearing a good fitting stapless bra with it, you can always try pining the edges of the dress to the bra, or there's always heavy duty double-sided fabric tape.
