coming from someone who used to have terrible acne and tried pretty much everything, i think the best thing out there is clean&clear continuous acne clenser, its amazing. also you should use a moistuizer too to keep your skin from drying and gettting more acne, just make sure its oil free.

So i dont know if this will work for you but it worked for me... Every other night i use a cotton round and wipe my face with rubbing alchohol, then you put a not scented lotion on (the alchol dries out your face)Then once a week i use Apricot Scrub by St. Ives it scrubs off your dry skin and i sleep with lotion every night and then for the other days use a mild face soap like clinique. Hope i helped =]

I tried everything over the counter. Some things worked for a while, like Pro-Active (lots of steps) and the Benzoyl peroxide products at acne dot org. I even tried a special light for acne... The products made it better initially, but didn't get my skin as clear as I wanted it. I still had breakouts and blackheads

I even tried birth control for 3 months, but I gained weight (5 pounds per month) and I stopped taking them. Everyone doesn't react the same way, so don't let that scare you off.

So finally, after years of suffering I made an appointment with a derm, and I had to wait a month for her to see me. My parents ins. covered the visit. It was only $28. Then they gave me a months worth of samples to try...and they worked. So then they gave me 3 perscriptions with some coupons ... a wash with Benzoyl, a cream with Benzoyl, and a retin A type gel. I wash once daily, use the Benzoyl before bed, and the retin A product before make-up in the morning.

You can try a lower dosage over the counter products. Buy a wash and cream with the highest Benzoyl you can find, probably 10%. Use the wash in your shower daily. Leave it on for 1-2 minutes before you rinse off to give it time to work. Use the benzoyl cream 1 times per day building up to twice a day if you still need improvement.

Your face will dry out at first but stick with it!!! I had so much tight, dry skin I wanted to give up but I didn't. Skip a day or two if it is too bad. After a couple of months your skin adjusts and it doesn't dry you out anymore. I promise. CeraVe is the over the counter moisturizer my derm recommends.

I am now pimple free, even during my period. I have some blackheads on my nose, but no longer on my forehead or cheeks. And that is improving too. It has now been 4.5 months.

Anything you do - beside popping a birth control pill once a day, takes discipline to stick to it and not give up. You will see improvement in a couple of weeks, and other's will see improvement in a month. By the end of 3 months, you will be happy.

Good Luck

Hm... did you try proactiv? It's pretty good. most acne products are desgined for normal skin. If yours is oily then it would difficult. If that's your issue, try scrubbing your face with a very good facewash. Try not to use any mosturizers unless it's too dry. Proactiv has a really good face mask you can buy at Macy's. At night after washing your face, apply it really thick to your face but do NOT wash it off. Leave it on all night. It will dry out the pimples. :D
