Apple Fast...To eat the seeds or not eat the seeds.

Question Posted Monday February 2 2009, 9:13 pm

I would like to start my apple fast tomorrow. I have read that you are supposed to eat the seeds. One coworker said she does not because the seeds have arsenic. The other coworker said she eats them anyway and they don't cause any harm despite the supposed arsenic. What do you all think? Thank you.

Additional info, added Monday February 2 2009, 9:17 pm:
This is something I found, and tell me if this makes a difference. What I am going to do is eat the apple and the seed all day for 2 days consuming about 12-16 apples and their seeds within that time period. Only people who know about nutrition and healthy eating please.

"The good news: apple seeds do not contain arsenic. The bad news: apple
seeds DO contain cyanide. As for processing the apples, what kind of
processing are you interested in? Grinding apples and pressing them for
cider doesn't release enough cyanide to be a problem; neither does cooking
apples and straining them to make a sauce. About the only way you can
actually ruin into a problem with the toxicity of apple seeds is if you save
the seeds from about a bushel of apples and eat them all at once."

According to her, 80g (about 1/2 cup) of apple seeds is the minimum lethal dose for someone weighing 75kg (165lb). And the seeds would need to be eaten all at once.

You are at absolutely no risk of cyanide poisoning. Even if you approached a lethal dose, you would lose consciousness from the cyanide before it killed you unless you ate a large amount of pure apple seeds. There is no way you could possibly consume enough apples quickly enough to be in any danger.
