I am an accountant. And I do love it. I love working with money, with numbers. Getting everything to balance. Listen I am not good at math,(some people always think so) Because I just add and subtract, and I always use a calculator.
I also learned to do tax returns. I started by doing tax returns for all my friends. Then I started my own business. bookkeeping and taxes. I do tax returns on the side, because I have a full time job as a controller for a manufacturing company. The extra money comes in handy. People think I am so smart because so many people don't want to take the time to understand money and finance. I have made smart decisions in my life about money. I own my own home, and I raised two boys by myself. With an accounting degree you could become a CPA, or you could work as a controller for a private company. Some companies have one person who is the financial officer, while others have dozens and dozens. You also have to be good with computers because all accounting is done on computers today, but when I started, I did it all by hand in ledger books. That is still the way they teach it in college.
I like computerized accounting software much better. Accountants, once they have experience and are established can make fro $60K to $85K annually. Starting out from collge you should be able to get a job paying $28 to 30K.
Hope this helps.

My older brother was in the Navy and did Accounting. After his four years now he is going to college for Accounting. If its something you truely want to do than it wont be so hard to concentrate on the course. Time consuming is depending on the person if you are good at studying and can understand it well. someone with a photographic memory would find it less consuming than someone who needs to read it a couple times. take your time Good Luck, FYI my brother loves it.
