My mom thinks I'm his girlfriend..?

Question Posted Monday October 27 2008, 12:22 am

I've been best friends with this guy for like three years, and there's nothing more than friendship going on, and probably never will be. But, my mom is just convinced that I'm his girlfriend. I used to deny it everytime, but she keeps going on about it, so I stopped saying anything....ugh I'm sick of it. I tried telling her that we're only friends, but she won't believe me...what do I do?

Let her hear it from him. Have him tell her that your friends and that is all you ever plan to be. You can't make anyone believe anything they don't want to. however, having him give it to her straight should do it.

It's a mother thing...
If he has a girlfriend, introduce her to your mother (have a mini-party or something).
If not, it becomes trickier. Sometimes you have to be aggressive with parents. I'm not saying push her down the stairs, but next time she says that look her dead in the eye and say something like "Mom, he's a friend. I am not his girlfriend. I do not wish to be his girlfriend. If you call me his girlfriend again I will scream. This is NOT okay anymore." Something like that. Firm but respectful. You have to let her know you're serious. It can be hard but it works.
