i'm really nervous about uploading a pic of myself on myspace.
My whole family has been threatening me.
"If you put a picture of yourself on myspace some guy can scan your picture and get your adress and stuff and stalk u and rape you"
im really scared!
haha but all my friends do it and they done get raped!

There is certain settings on myspace. You can set private so just your "personal" friends can see the pix or you can set it to the public which is everybody can see them. Now, there is absolutly no possible way someone can scan your pic and get your address nor could they find you. That, I guess, is just a way of your parents trying to get you not to do this. I have never heard of a pic resulting in a rape. No worries, the worst that could happen is a creepy comment of your pic. There is nothing to be scared about.

ok whoever told u that has got some serious issues have had a myspace for 2 years and since day one i've had a picture of myself as my default and all my friends have pictures of themselves and none of them have been raped so dont worry about it. if u want to post a pic of your self go ahead!

Scanning your picture does not randomly spew your address out to a potential rapist.
If you were to go on myspace and list your address, your picture could serve as a guide for your rapist friend on who is his target/future rapee/etc.
As long as you don't put up idiotic personal information about yourself, you should be safe.

No, the only way you're going to get raped is if you agree to meet up with an unknown person online - which from this question, I can easily tell you aren't going to do that. The only way another person can get your information is if you give it to them, meaning a stranger, and I'm sure that you aren't going to do that either. The only truth to your families statements is that another person can copy and save your picture, however, they can't really use it to indentify you if you don't give them any information to find you, or find out about you.
I would just go ahead and post your pictures, just be sure to be safe and to give out information to strangers.

.. just because you put a picture up doesn't mean your going to get raped the people that get raped are the stupid ones that turn myspace into something horrible that its not, don't upload pictures of yourself half naked and doing sexual things and don't put any of your real information on like where you live .. and set your page to private and all your pictures to private so only your friends can see them and your profile, if you do that, you wont get raped
