kc answered Wednesday August 13 2008, 8:21 pm:
Athletes sometimes over-work their muscles doing whatever they do, and ice calms the swelling in the muscles and dulls the pain for a while. If it is a small area that hurts, a small bag of ice on that spot should be just enough. But sometimes it is the whole leg that is sore and in pain, so they fill a tub with ice and water and lay in it instead of taking 5 icebags and laying them on your legs. They are not fun to do, and are pretty painful for the first 5 minutes before you numb.
