I am a Wiccan, and I believe (just not completely). I have I Wiccan spell book, and it says I need to completely believe in it, before it will work. I was taught not to believe in magic, but I have started to believe (but not enough to get the spells to work). Can anyone help me believe completely?

Many Wiccans draw that power from the eternity of the earth, but you could feel powerful because of beauty, a dream, the sight of something amazing, or the desire to be someone powerful. Wicca will never let you down. It is a tool, one that can help you grow and change and lose your fear. People will become attracted to you--not because you magically become beautiful, but because you lose your fear of death or pain or loneliness and you walk with your head high.
Talk to as many Wiccans as you can, ask them serious questions, join discussion forums and listen while they discuss. Talk to adult Wiccans as much as possible. Ask them how it was in the beginning. I just marked my 10-year anniversary as a Pagan and I am so incredibly glad I found it. It got me through the hardest years of my life and I feel so inspired and loved because of it.
Magic is not a fake trick, magic is using your own unbendable will to create effects in the energy fields that make up everything. Thought is an energy, it uses electricity in the brain. It is measurable and visible. If that thought is focused into will, that measurable force can affect the energy around it, or far away. It's "magic", but it isn't imaginary. Animals can communicate and feel things humans have long forgotten--when humans do it we call them "psychic". It's the same thing. There's nothing mysterious about it. :)
Listen to the answers at the bottom of this page, they are very honestly written and helpful. Good luck. If you are brave enough to take the plunge, you'll find it very rewarding. [ koshii's advice column | Ask koshii A Question ]

It's the best, most unbiased, and most accurate overview of Wicca I know.
Most "spell books" you find in libraries and book stores are entirely fictional. They take the most appealing elements of Wicca, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, etc. and mash it all together. These "new age" Wiccan books are terribly far from what Wicca originally was. [ theymos's advice column | Ask theymos A Question ]
Missa8305 answered Monday August 4 2008, 12:32 am: Belief...
I'd like to say that belief is a powerful thing... No matter what that belief is in. And people have different names for that power. Some call it the power of prayer, some call it the power of positive thinking, a recently published book calls it 'The Secret,' some people call it 'magic,' and people like me just call it energy. I believe that it's all the same thing and that it works the same way. But that's just me.
With this power people can heal sickness and injuries. With this power people can change their lives for the better. Perform miracles, so to speak. Jesus did it... And if I recall correctly, I do believe he said that anyone could do it. All they have to do is believe _enough_.
And believing is the hardest thing you'll ever do. There is no trick to it... No tip that anyone can give you to make something click into place inside your head. Learning to believe is a process. It takes time. The best thing you can do is be patient and realize that you're on a spiritual journey. Don't look for the supernatural. Look for the everyday miracles that people have a tendency to miss. Morgan Freeman said it best in 'Bruce Almighty' : 'Parting your soup is just a parlour trick. A single mother that manages to hold down two jobs and still attend her kids' soccer practice... Now THAT is a miracle.'
And don't rely on what you read in books. I've heard more than one Wiccan say that some of the best spells that they know are the spells that they made up themselves. You're allowed to create your own spells, your own rituals... Just like, while their are lots of prayers in the Christian faiths... Most people feel closer to God, and like they are being heard when they pray like they're talking to a friend. Don't be afraid to shake things up a little. There's no template that people HAVE to follow. You're allowed to do your own thing, that's what makes it so great.

Also, it's also worth it to remember that the book you have is a PRODUCT. Someone packaged, it marketed and sold it to you. It was designed to get your money. In order to sell more of the book, it must appear that the book is successful in delivering effective spells.
Everyday people complain to the manufacturers of weight loss programs and pills, and the manufacturers tell them 'Well, obviously you didn't do it right, because our product works!'
Your spell book is tagging on a similar warning 'If these spells don't work, it's because you didn't do it right/don't believe enough.'
It’s bullshit when diet companies do it, and it’s bullshit when religious/self-help books do it.
Talk to other, preferably adult wiccans. Send out some e-mails or join forums where there are reputable adult practitioners. They can recommend some good exercises and first ‘spells’ for you to perform. They will also likely tell you this: Many wiccans do not practice spell craft or witchcraft and some believe the whole idea of ‘spells’ to be a modern misunderstanding.
