jaw discomfort?

Question Posted Friday July 4 2008, 1:54 pm

ever since i got my braces off (three years ago) my jaw kinda pops sometimes.

that mostly stopped for a while, but recently i've been expieriencing a LOT of soreness on the left side; it feels like a bruise and i can't open my mouth all the way.

it's not my teeth, i suspected it might be a cavity but i got checked and it turns out i don't have any.

any way i can make the pain stop?
what might have caused this?

thanks!

Hey! I know you asked this question like ages ago, but I had the exact same problem and it hurts so bad, but then I got all of my wisdom teeth taken out and my jaw hasn't popped or hurt at all since then so maybe you should get them checked out.

It could be that your teeth are not in perfect alignment with each other. In otherwords your bite may be off. While this seems minor, it can cause major pain and soreness. I've had it happen to me, so I know. It may just be a tiny amount and the orthodonist didn't notice. If this is the case it would be very simple to fix. Once my bite was corrected the pain was gone in less than 24 hours, but I tell you, my entire face hurt before it was BAD.

Sounds like you injured your jaw. This happened to my sister when her wisdom teeth were pulled. Lucking on ice and gurgling salt water won't do anything for this. It's also not an allergic reaction, they don't last this long. I would just have a doctor or dentist look at your jaw and see what they recommend.

Kittzen talking,
i say you should see a doctor and a dentist and maybe a specilist. tell your parents and all that see if they had this problem before it maybe an allgic reaction or something.
but intill you find out you should most deffently gargle with salt water and suck on ice, see if this gets any better. other than that all i can tell you is see a doctor.

I experienced the same thing after I got my braces off. I didn't really know what it was or what was causing it. At that age, I didn't even think to draw the connection between the braces and my jaw.

The soreness stopped stopped after a month or two, and never came back. I just sort of waited it out. Given enough time, I'm sure yours will stop too.

Sorry I couldn't help more.
