ok i have astigmatism slightly in my eye and i didn't understand what it was until i got contacts.

basically the eye or eyes that have it dont see as clearly as they could even if you have glasses with 20/20 vision

for example... i had glasses that were meant for astigmatism and then when i got contacts, they weren't meant for people with astigmatism, and my eye that had astigmatism didn't see as clearly and as sharp as the other eye.

it's not harmful. it's more annoying than anything. but you don't really notice it. if you get glasses with prescribed astigmatism lenses you'll be fine it's not a big deal whatsoever.

I found the easiest descriptions for you. Do these help?

"Astigmatism is characterized by an irregular curvature of the cornea. This type of disorder is also known as a refractive error. Astigmatism occurs in nearly everybody to some degree. For significant curvature, treatment is required."

Or

"A visual defect in which the unequal curvature of one or more refractive surfaces of the eye, usually the cornea, prevents light rays from focusing clearly at one point on the retina, resulting in blurred vision."

Or

"Astigmatism occurs when the front part of the eye, the cornea, is not a regular symmetrical spherical shape. Instead, its shape is rather like that of the back of a spoon - longer in one direction than another. Because the cornea is an irregular shape, the eye can't focus light passing through it sharply on to the back of the eye or retina. So vision is blurred at all distances."

Harmful?
Not really. It's common. but you should get it fixed.

Treatment:
Glasses, contact lenses, surgery, laser surgery.

Hope that has cleared things up for you.

It has to do with your eye being shaped differently.

It's harmful if not treated just because it impacts your vision.

I don't think that it can be permanently fixed.

I may be just a bit off, but I do think that it's when a person's eye is weaker in vision than the other.

It can probably be fixed with laser surgery if I'm right about what it is.
