I just bought my cat a second litterbox and it has a cover and a door flap to get in. her regular box is in the laundry room and we have to open the door for her so she can use it. she will not use this new covered litter pan...i have showed her many times and everytime I put her in there she runs away. i caught her peeing on the carpet. normally she is great with using the pan, but no she is not. I cannot have an uncovered one because of dogs and children. how can i get her to use the new pan?

Cats dont like the idea of being trapped--at all-- I know it will stink but if it stinks too bad it is cause she isnt getting enough water. Remember, change the box every week. and the litterbox doesnt have to be all fancy like. They POOP in it for God's sake. But I think she will be fine once you take the lid off.

Once they get used to something, for example the uncovered litter box in the laundry room, it’s hard for them to change. However, try this to help get your cat used to using the covered litter box. Train him by placing a large cardboard box over his old litter box, and gradually decrease the size of the box until it is the same size as the cover of the new litter box. After a couple of days make the switch. That worked for me, hope it helps you. :) good luck! [ cutie_pie's advice column | Ask cutie_pie A Question ]
