Question Posted Monday March 24 2008, 3:16 pm

16/f
5'5
163 lbs.

I'm so sick of being fat. I've tried almost everything! I just can't stop eating junk food. I need to be 135-140lbs by June. So I have 67 days to lose 23-25 lbs.
I recently heard about a detox diet? Or a cleanse involving lemons?
Could someone please elaborate on those?
I am also open to other suggestions!

There is certain types of "junk food" that is not necessarily bad for you. Try browsing the natural foods store for candy bars and low-fat chips. moderation is key. Some very high fat foods to cut out of your diet is soda, juice, cheese, steak, hamburger, sugar, anything with hydroginated oils in the ingredients, high fructose corn syrup, and white bread rice and pasta. Read the labels on everything you eat. If you are going to eat bread or pasta, make sure it is 100% whole wheat. Just by cutting those things out you are guaranteed to lose weight. Add exercise and lower your portions and the weight will just fall off. Eventually you will not even crave those high fat junk foods after eating healthy for a few weeks. I don't neccessarily recommend going on a detox diet because if you go back to eating what you used to you will gain all the weight back. However, since you are a junk food junkie, it may be helpful to clear your system of the impurities and start new. the one you are talking about it the master cleanse detox, it is water mixed with maple syrup (100% pure syrup) lemon juice and cayenne pepper. You can lose about a pound a day or more, but mostly water weight at first. Drink that all day whenever hungry for as many days as you like, probably do not go over 8 days. The key to this detox is to slowly go back to solid foods. On the first day, drink water and juice, then after slowly add in soups mostly broth and raw veggies and fruits. After two or three days, add back the carbs, but do not over-do it and DO NOT GO BACK TO EATING HIGH FAT JUNK FOOD AND WHITE CARBOHYDRATES. your body will be "clean" and you do not want to erase the work you have done. you will want to eat healthy. Your whole body will thank you and you will feel better mentally and physically. GOOD LUCK. I also do believe that you are overweight, and extra weight is not good for your heart or rest of your body. It also does not matter if you are skinny and eat junk all the time, you are still unhealthy. The best of luck to you, any further questions or support, feel free to contact me. peace

I'm going to feel like a hypocrite saying this (because I'm the same weight and height as you) but honestly you aren't fat. Even with BMI you're barely over the recommended range. And by barely I mean hardly at all.

So since you still want to improve yourself, focus more on how you feel and not the number on the scale. Eat less junk food, and cut out soda almost entirely if you drink a lot. Crystal Light & Speciak K Protein Water are both good choices if water is boring to you. Which brings up anothet good point- drink lots of water (6-8 glasses daily is a good number). Not just until you lose the weight you want, but for life. You'll feel so much better.

Other than checking your diet (a good balance of carbs, proteins, dairy, and fruits/vegetables will do the trick) exercise is your best option. Walk, run, Pilates, kickboxing, whatever gets you moving & those muscles working will work.

As for detox things, yes they can work, but should only be done under the close supervision of a doctor. They involve consuming virtually nothing for days at a time, which can be VERY dangerous, so I advise you not to do them. (However, if drinking 6 glasses of lemon water a day gets you to drink water, then by all means drink 6 glasses of lemon water. But eat, too!)

Good luck =)

I don't know anything about detox or anything like that x[ but I can tell you what I'm doing that seems to be working.

If you drink a lot of pop you should stop doing that immediately. My dad stopped and he lost 14 pounds in a week lol The carbonation expands your stomach and you end up feeling like you're still hungry even though you've eaten enough calories.

Next time your mom/dad/whoever goes grocery shopping go with them and pick out some healthy foods for yourself. Once you have some good food around that you know you like its not so hard to turn down junk food. I just started dieting about a week ago and thats been working for me :] I can't tell you if I weigh less(I don't have a scale) but my clothes are fitting a little looser.

Healthy foods you should definitely look for-
Yogurt! The kind I get comes in all kinds of really good flavors(cake, pie XD anything really) and its usually below 200 calories per thing so its a good snack. Also the dairy is really good for losing weight.
Foods with high fiber - to help speed up your digestion
Skinny cow ice cream is AMAZING. Around 90-190 calories per bar. Its great.

Also, drinking water helps fill you up so you don't feel so hungry. You should still eat the right amount of food, but a lot of people just eat when they're bored(like me) so that helps.

I know you probably don't want to hear it but exercise is essential. Just do it for a little while every(or every other) day, just until you're tired.

If you do that I don't see any reason why you shouldn't lose weight. =]

Good luck. I know how hard food habits are to break, but it only really takes a few days to get in the swing of things!
