falling asleep in class..

Question Posted Sunday March 16 2008, 12:12 am

okay..high school classes can be very boring sometimes, as I'm sure you all know..and I suffer from..falling asleep during some of them.

I can't help it. Sometimes..even when I get like 10 hours of sleep, my eye lids still feel heavy..and they droop down..and I feel like sleeping. No matter what I do..clench my butt muscles, pump my veins, drink water..NOTHING works. what can I do to cure this? lol

I would have the person who sits behind you poke you on the back when they think your sleeping or ask alot of questions and keep in the learning conversation. Mabe even hold your eyelids open!!
Hope my advice will do somthing to help...

Draw pictures. I'm serious. That's what I do. I have this extremely boring class, and I just doodle or read and it keeps me awake. Or, I agree with the person below who said go to the bathroom and splash cold water on your face. This way, not only are you waking up because of the water on your face, but you're up and moving and whatnot, too.

Or, try getting less than 10 hours of sleep. I read somewhere (in one of my mom's medical books not on the internet) that getting MORE sleep can cause reverse side affects. So, try getting like, 8 a night instead of 10 and see if that helps.

You could be anemic, I would try taking iron supliments for a few months.
Also try having very strict bed times and waking up times, even at the weekend, and set it so you have exactly 8 or 9 hours sleep, sounds a little unhelpful but trust me, when your body gets into a pattern of sleeping at those particular times and not at other times it will help.
I would also recomend going to see your doctor, you may have a low thyroid problem which he can diagnose, although(esp if you are vegitarian) it is a lot more likely you are anemic.

Another thing is, if you are in pain a lot (growing pains etc) this could be why. I myself suffer very much with pain and as a result sleep 16 hours a day.

If you need any more advice, don't hesitate to drop me a line in my inbox. I really hope you get better soon, I know how horrible it is to have to sleep all the time.
xx

I think you maybe suffering from stamina if you're listening to music or on the computer less than two hours before you go to bed. Try drinking some green tea before you go to school maybe that would help.

well, i would go to the bathroom and splash cold water on my face. but that might not be the best idea.

all i can say is that some times its just way to hard to say up. but find something to do in class. like count the posters or weird things like that. or even say jokes to yourself about things around you.

good luck
