She really needs to see her doctor about this menstrual situation. Her normal doctor may send her to a gynecologist (just to make sure everything is okay) and may also prescribe her to begin taking iron supplements if he/she feels she is lacking.
I had periods like that when I started too and it was really awful for me since I had less time to go swimming and do things other girls my age were doing.
It turned out that I had a cyst on one of my ovaries and that's why my periods were so out of whack. I had to go to the gynecologist so they could help me set my periods straight.
Without seeing a doctor I wouldn't have known about the cyst and my periods would still be very bad.
I had gone so long letting my body have periods like your friend is having, my body was lacking iron and I developed dark patches under my eyes that were very hard to cover up with make-up and were very embarrassing.
I wish your friend courage on telling her mother about her menstrual cycle problems and requesting to see her doctor about it. [ Peeps's advice column | Ask Peeps A Question ]
Sima answered Wednesday February 27 2008, 9:04 pm: It's normal for periods to be very irregular. I'm just about finished with mine, and I got it about 2 weeks ago. 2 months before that, I had my period. It varies, and it won't regulate until you're out of your teen years [usually]. Don't worry. superstarblue89 answered Wednesday February 27 2008, 8:50 pm: well she has her period too often...but it can take up to 4 years for a girl's period to regulate fully and I doubt she's had her period since she was 10 so she's okay for now...if it continues after the 4 years she should go see a gynecologist. They'll be able to do something about it. [ superstarblue89's advice column | Ask superstarblue89 A Question ]
