Feelings of Inferiority Among My Classmates

Question Posted Friday February 8 2008, 5:40 pm

Okay so today in school we were working in our groups because we have to create our own political parties and each member of the group had to choose two topics that they wanted to talk about. We went around the group to see what each person's points were, and mine really sucked. In general, sometimes I feel like I don't have basic knowledge of things going on in the United States and just in general. I mean, I know stuff and follow the news from time to time, don't get me wrong here...but I always feel so slow and inferior to everyone else at school, like I don't know anything. How do I overcome this feeling and how do I gain more knowledge?

The best news is that it's an easy subject to work on. I know it seems boring, but the only way to get better is to watch the news, read the paper. Also, in politics, it's all about opinion. And there are plenty of stupid people that voice theirs. So, think about some major issues, (abortion, stem cell research, same sex marriage, the basics) and just think about how you feel. Don't be afraid to look up info on anything. It's easy to find.

My dear friend,
Don't feel inferior. Everyone is going through the same things at school. People act confident to hide their own feelings of inferiority.
Find some topics that you interested in and learn about them. Education, the presidential election, the genocide in Darfur, poverty, Black History month, American subcultures, homosexual marriage, child labor -- there's a world of topics out there, be creative. Find something that you are genuinely interested in, research it (on [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) or [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)) and your confidence will thank you for it.

Dear Inferior,

Knowledge is power. You seem like a very intelligent person. You are aware of your own emotions and interactions with your group members. You desire to change what you do not like about yourself.

The best way to learn more about the government is to watch and read the news. There is so much information being provided, you just need to access it. For the information you do not understand, don't hesitate to ask others.

Keep in mind that you are a student. You are in a classroom to learn. You should not feel as though you are required to know everything.. about everything.

Best wishes,

She Screams.

You gain knowledge by obvioulsy keeping yourself up to date on ongoing news for example:
global warming. It's all over the newspapers and CNN is gushing over it. Al Gore is also a huge supporter in this, even made a movie about it 2years ago called An Incovenient Truth.
Just keep reading the newspaper and watch the news every night, this will help you gain some more knowledge about world wide happenings.
To overcome that feeling, you have to believe in yourself and convince yourself that it doesn't matter how smart you are or how much you know. I recently overcame this kind of feeling, because the truth is, there will always be people smarter than you and dumber than you, it's just a matter of how you handle it and the amount of courage you produce. Just keep your head held high, take a deep breath and remember, everyone has insecurities, and you have to deal with it by doing something about it.
Good luckk

Just because you blow at one topic doesn't mean you'll flop at another. It just not might be your forte. However, has anyone just come up and said "you suck." Maybe you just think you are doing bad. There's not a darn thing wrong with wanting to be better than what you are already. To gain more knowledge about any subject the power is at your finer tips, literally. The Internet. If you need to research a topic or find out more about a subject, you got it. Wikipedia is a great resource for almost everything.
