In something I read, it says that Houdini died from a ruptured appendix because of a college boy who had heard he could get hit and it wouldn't affect him, but it did.

Harry Houdini, age 52, on Halloween, in the afternoon of October 31th, 1926. He was sick at his last performance at the Garrick Theatre in Detroit, Michigan. Then was hospitalized at Detroit's Grace Hospital. He died because of a ruptured appendix, peritonitis, or possibly some suspected food poisoning, not because of a stunt for the movie.
