I hear that sodium is really bad for you but sometimes I hear people say that this food is really good for you because of the sodium. Is sodium good or bad? =/
ThEDaRkEsTSiDe answered Tuesday January 15 2008, 8:44 pm: Just like any edible thing in this world, too much is not good for you, even vitamins such as vitamin A & D, and minerals such as iron, zinc, etc. The average person's daily needs of sodium should not exceed 2,400 mg per day. One thing that we don't realize though is that we ingest MASSIVE amounts of sodium from day to day, even using it as a seasoning (table salt). Some small steps from preventing going over on your sodium limits are not adding table salt to any food, espcially meat, which already contains large amounts of sodium. Take it easy on seasonings such as salad dressings and soy sauce. One serving of soy sauce contains a whooping 47% of your daily value.. that's about two tablespoons. It just isn't worth to use sauce's such as that. Sodium is probably the one nutrient that we don't realize and moniter how much we take in. Making small observations though such as how much table salt and sauce is on your foods can help you keep track of how much you ingest. So to sum your question up, sodium IS good for you and Is necessary for the body to function properly, but too much of sodium IS NOT good for you, in any means. Hope that helps you out! So basically, it's ok to have in your diet, because it is needed, but don't go overboard with it =]
