Lacrosse + running = I NEED TO GET IN SHAPE

Question Posted Tuesday January 8 2008, 6:36 pm

Basically, I'm asking what I can do to get in shape. I usually get really bored with just running around the neighborhood, so any other suggestions? Are there any specific excercises I can do too? Also, I want to bulid muscle in my arms, so any suggestions? I know to lift weights and stuff, but any specific excercises again? I also really want to get a really nice stomach (a six pack would be nice!) any suggestions for that?

Two claps for lacrosse! I've played boys lacrosse, and now I manage the boys team.. but back when I played - I remember always trying to stay in shape!

There are certain little things you can do that will eventually add up.

For my abs, whenever I remembered I'd just sit up (posture is important, and will help) and try and flex my stomach for a few seconds. Doing this a few times throughout the day will make you sore, and will make a difference.

As for arms, lift things in your house and do arm curls. Do it to a favorite song, or while you're on the phone or something. Working out to music that you love almost takes your mind off of the pain, and helps you focus on the words. Sing it or lip sync it if that helps you, but the music essentially makes working out fun.

Or whenever I remembered, I would try and jog to certain places instead of walking.

Working out isn't always the most fun thing to do, but you have to find funny little things to keep you going. And whenever your working out, try to always have the positive mentality of "I can do one more, I can keep going, it's all in my head". Of course you don't want to injure yourself, but always try and do a little more than you did before.

And if you decide to lift weights in a gym, remember you should only do that three times a week, because doing it everyday will strain your muscles. But you should try and do cardio as much as you can, atleast thirty minutes a day. Even if it means fast-paced walking.

I also used to do crunches and pushups every night. 5 pushups the first night, 6 pushups the second night, and so on. Your goal is to improve your shape.

I'm just going off of what I did during past lacrosse seasons, sorry if this isn't what you were looking for. But here's just some of my advice. Best of luck to getting in shape, and best of luck on the season!

Hey man, when it comes to fitness, you need to find somthing active that you love to do. Somthing that you look forward to doing to get into shape. Alot of people aren't open to the subject of fitness, and get bored of it easily. Personally, I love using free weights. It's a routine that I can look forward to doing everyday. For you, since you want to cut fat as well as gain muscle, I would start out with somthing as simple as doing stairs. You break a great sweat and breath heavily, providing a good cardiovascular excercise (to burn fat) and as you run steps, you tend to build lean leg muscle. The more muscle you have, the more fat that you burn. On days that you don't do that, you can try to start out using free weights to start gaining muscle mass in your arms and torso. The six pack.. everyone wants one, but it could possibly be the most challenging thing to define on your body. It's an area where body fat needs to be low to show the muscle definition, but what makes that so hard is the fact that fat generally forms mainly in that region. Once you start to lose body fat in that area, it might be a good time to start defining. Start doing somthing as simple as crunches, to do things like bicycles or the dreaded "6 inches," where you lay flat on your back and raise your legs as close as you can to 6 inches and hold it as long as you can. These are exercises that will help your abdominals to protrude eventually as well, which will help them show their true definiton on your stomach. Like I said, I believe one true important thing about getting into shape or general excercise, is finding somthing that you enjoy doing. Experiment! See what really appeals to you. Best of luck to you man, and good luck achieving your goal.
