tanning?

Question Posted Monday December 3 2007, 6:40 pm

Does anyone know if it is safe to go tanning while being pregnant? I am not positive and I do not want to hurt my baby. Thanks in advance.

Yes. Tanning is very dangerous while pregnant because of the harmful UV rays. The tanning establishment you go to should have a sign above each bed that lists people who should not tan. Pregnant women is on that list.

No, tanning is not considered safe, neither laying in the sun or laying in a tanning bed. So best bet is to avoid UV tanning and use tanning lotion, or something of the sort.

Since your skin becomes more sensitive during pregnancy due to hormones, you should do a patch test in an inconspicuous area so you know if it will irritate your skin.

Someone said coloring your hair is unsafe- that isn't true. There is no proven harm in chemically treating your hair, and your OB will tell you that if you ask.
It is safest to wait until the second trimester and in a WELL ventilated area.
This includes dying AND perming.

it's not a good idea. there are a lot of things we still don't know about tanning, and to be on the safe side, use the jergen's natural glow lotion (works really well) until you have the baby :)

I would not suggest going tanning while you're pregnant. There's rumors that it's unhealthy & I think that should be enough for you to say that you probably should stop tanning until you have your baby. Here's a website-

You can also talk to your doctor.

-hope that helped!♥
