hair straighteners

Question Posted Saturday December 1 2007, 5:03 pm

i want to get a really nice hair straightener for christmas. something that works really well and lasts reasonably long. I don't want a CHI, or really anything above $80. what do you recommend?

Go to a beauty supply shop, like Sally Beauty Supply, and they can recommend one for you.

I went to Walmart and Target and bought almost every straightener there. I ended up returning all of them. Conair and Remington are not good quality hair straighteners at all. Trust me.

If you want good quality, get a GVP (Generic Value Product) straightener from Sally's. I bought one yesterday for $50. It's ceramic, so it doesn't damage your hair that much. It's simply amazing. It's very inexpensive, considering that it gets your hair really straight in a short amount of time. It's normally $70, but it only costs $50 throughout December. Personally, I think that GVP's are as good as CHI straighteners for a fraction of the price.

Remington's Wet-to-Straight is horrible. It hurts because it pulls your hair, and it doesn't straighten wet or damp hair. It just fries it. Trust me, I had one. Conair straighteners take forever to heat up, and when they do, they aren't hot at all.

Good luck. :]

InfraShine is amazing- you can buy it at beauty supply stores. My hairdresser says it's better than a Chi (and it's way cheaper). It doesn't wreck your hair, works really well, and heats up very quickly. Not to mention that it comes with a warranty and lasts for years.

Hot Tools flat irons (metal) are reasonably priced, at around $20. I would recommend getting a ceramic flat iron, since it regulates heat and causes less damage to your hair. I checked google (products link) and found Conair, Ceramic Heat Flat Iron for $25. Target (online) carries a conair flat iron for around $40. I think you can also find the same thing at the Target store, or maybe Walmart or some beauty supply store. Another similar product is a ceramic flat iron from Revlon (around $30).
If you're looking for something a bit more expensive, in the $50-75 price range, Bed Head flat iron ($70) is available at Target, and I've seen some of their hairstyling tools at the drugstore too. Overall, I think Salon Selectives, Bed Head, and Hot Tools have better quality products at a reasonable price.

Remington Wet2Straight or Wet2Style (only difference is the shape of the plates). You'll pay around 35-40 dollars. Ive had one for about three years and it works really well, just use it on dry hair.
