cat in heat

Question Posted Sunday November 18 2007, 9:32 pm

my cat's about 8 months old, she's a girl. she's been whining for the past two days, nonstop. meowing so freaking loudly... she breaks down and starts rolling around on the floor and has these convulsions..., waiting for a male cat. we have a male cat, but he's older and castrated.
i'm supposing she's in heat...?

how long does this usually take and is there anything a person has to do to help her..?

it deffinetely osunds like your cat is in heat. If this is the case. Cats go into heat every 3 weeks and it lasts anywhere from 9-10 days. It happens throughout the year. The only thing you coulddo to help is spay her, but its not a must do thing.
Hope i helped.

Well, it does sound like she is in heat, but it also sounds that she might be having seizures. I would take her to the vet to get some blood tests. It could be something serious, but if its turns out to be just her being in heat, definitely spay her. It'll decrease the chances of her running away, and also, if she does find a non-castrated male, she will have babies, and there are more than enough cats in the world.

PS. I advice you to neuter her when she's out of heat because that will save you some bucks.

Yes. She's in heat, and heat in cats usually lasts anywhere from 14-21 days. Heat occurs every 3 weeks in autumn and early winter. It'll pass, and you don't need to help her.
