Same Food

Question Posted Saturday November 3 2007, 8:54 pm

Is it dangerous to eat the same food every day?? I've been eating the same cereal every morning for breakfast for a few years. There's rumors that it can be bad for you, but I can't break the habit. Are these just rumors?? Anyone else do this?? Ideas/opinions?? Thanks!!

If it's just your breakfast cereal that's the same everyday, it shouldn't be "dangerous". Just make sure you have some variation in your other meals if you prefer to always have the same breakfast. If you always have the same food for your other meals as well, you would be at risk of nutritional deficiencies unless you happen to have a lot of variety in the foods that you eat everyday.

Either way, I would recommend checking the cereal's packaging for nutritional details. Make sure it doesn't have too much sugar, fat, or sodium. (Packaged breakfast cereals often do.)

No, I don't think it's a rumor. From my understanding, it's not-so-good for you because you aren't getting a variety of different foods. Meaning different/more proteins, nutrients and other things you need to keep you healthy and energized.

I don't think so. You're body forms a habit, and expects it everyday, but doesn't like become dependant on it. You might feel weird going without it, but that'd be natural. I mean, if you're eating Cocoa Puffs with sugar and chocolate milk every morning, then yeah, it's going to be bad for you, but only because the food itself is bad for you, not because you eat it everyday. So yeah, I am 99% sure that eating the same healthy cereal every morning is not bad for you. : )

No. It is not dangerous. However, it isn't good for you either. So, buy a new cereal. You may find a few you like. And if you don't, that is ok. Just make sure you get a good variety of foods through the rest of your day so you get the nutrition you need. Also, get a good multivitamin to make up for anything you may be lacking.
