Major English Conflicts

Question Posted Friday October 26 2007, 10:13 pm

What have been some major conflicts of Great Britain in the past, that aren't connected to America, and affected a lot of different classes of people?
All I can find are conflicts having to do with the colonists and all that jazz.
If you have anything that would really be great.
Thanks a bunches of oats! =]

The English Civil War 1642-1651, was between the Parlimentarians (Roundheads), led by Oliver Cromwell and the Cavaliers who supported the Royal Family. Briefly, in 1649 following some battles, Charles I was executed on the orders of Cromwell, the only British monarch this happened to (so far)! A Commonwealth was then established and Cromwell made himself Protector, becoming pretty much the same as the king before him.

The main thing that the Civil War did for the country was to stop the idea of the divine right of kings. Before this, kings thought they had been appointed by God and ruled absolutely. When Cromwell died and Charles II eventually came to the throne, he ruled with the consent of Parliment. This was more firmly established later in the century and is a situation that has continued to this day. Oliver Cromwell was also responsible for the formate of government.

I've given you a link with more information if you need it.

Try between France (Hundred Years' War), between Ireland, between Scotland, between Wales, between Spain, and between Australia.

Go to [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) for more stuff on England. I would suggest that the Hundred Years' War would be easiest since it was such a big event.

The East India Trading Company... Africa... The West Indies...

Remember, North America wasn't the only place Britain screwed around in.

Name a populated continent and they were exploiting it.
