are you allowed to use "you" (second person)? like "you haven't lived life until.."?

does anyone have any tips on college app essays btw?

I know a lot of teachers that don't accept 2nd person. It's always better to do it in 3rd person (one, he, she, they). However.. my psychology teacher used to get on me all the time for this.. if you say "one hasn't lived until they..." that would be incorrect... it should be "one hasn't lived until he..(or she but NOT both)"... it is saying that "one" is singular and "they" is plural.. It's kind of confusing but it's just some rule that my teacher has with us.

"You" is okay to use, however, I believe "one" is a better way to put it.

It's better form to use "one". Like "one hasn't lived until..". "You" is acceptable, though.
