Actually, Razhie, in South Carolina where Colbert announced he is running (yes, only s. Carolina) you can legally run as both parties. I was listening to an interview with him on NPR this morning and he (truthfully) said that it can be done.

I would vote for him.

I do think that he will run for real, but I agree that he wont make it very far. Hell probably just pull it off with a joke and a laugh, but hey, its a good publicity stunt, isn't it?

If Stephen Colbert actually ends up on the presidential ballot I would vote for him with no question.

Why?

1) Hes not expecting to win. Hes not a person who has spent his entire life building towards a political place of power. He isnt running because he wants to cut deals to friends or just to live in the white house.

Hes a comedian with an intelligent understanding of how screwed up our country is. I mean, compared to bush, if nothing else Colbert is a liberal with probably double our current president's IQ.

Stephen Colbert announced on his show, The Colbert Report, that he would run in the presidential primaries in South Carolina, which he certainly could try to do.

Except I'm betting he wont... for two reasons.

One, he said he will run as both a Democrat and a Republican. He can't do that. That is against both parties policies. They won’t let him.

Secondly, if he pursues this seriously, he could be looking at some serious legal trouble with the federal campaign laws, which outlaw corporations (like, ahem, Comedy Central, who employees him and pays for his time on air and all his publicity) to contribute money to a presidential campaign.

If he raises, or spends any money on this 'campaign' he'll need to register himself with the Federal Election Commission, which as far as I know, he hasn't done yet.

I think it's a joke, but hey! His new book ‘I Am America (And So Can You!)’ debuted on the New York Times bestseller list at #1 for hardcover non-fic… That sort of explains everything don’t it?

What? Isn't Stephen Colbert that guy on "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central? And he's running for prez? I wish Al Gore would run again too, but he's not. : ( I believe with all my heart that Hillary is going to win. I didn't even know that Colbert is running for president. I know he made some serious fun of George Bush, but... Anyway, I hope I answered... um, your "question"... lol.

Wait, so the rumors are actually true? I thought it was all a big joke. I didn't even realize he was actually running.
I bet if he is actually running a lot of his fans might vote for him. This makes me think of the movie with Robin Williams and how he runs and wins.

Anyway, I turn 18 on Nov. 7th of 2008 which is, unfortunately for me, less than a week after the election so I won't be able to vote. A lot of my friends are 18 or will be before the election (seeing that I'm in my final year of high school). It will be a good election though. I personally am against Hillary. Obama, in my opinion seems okay. I also don't mind some of the republican candidates. I'm unsure of who will be running in the 3rd party elections but can't wait to find out.

Anyway, to answer your question, anybody running has a chance of winning. Polls aren't the most accurate no matter what people think. I'm currently in an AP US Goverment and Politics class and we discuss these candidates daily and who we think has a chance and such so I do know quite a bit about the topic.
So, yes, he has as good of a chance as anyone to win.

I think he has a good chance, however, that's not who I want to win. I personally, want Hilary Clinton to win. I think she'd make a great president.
