Fighting cravings?

Question Posted Wednesday August 22 2007, 11:54 am

I'm usually really good with cravings but willpower is a b*tch sometimes and it's hard.

What's the best way to avoid cravings coming? And if they're inevitable, what's the best way to not give into them?

Substitution is always the best way. That, and do your best to remove all potential cravings from your house.

Examples
Frozen yogurt or sorbet instead of ice cream
Emergen-C Drink Mix instead of soda or juice
Flavored water instead of fruit juice
Mineral water instead of soda
A small handful of baked pita chips instead of potato chips
Low-fat mayo, sour cream, cream cheese
Fat-free yogurt with honey or applesauce with cinnamon sugar instead of cookies

I used to eat half a box of cookies at a time, but I started chewing sugarless gum (I recommend Orbit and Stride) and it's helped a lot.

I know what you mean.. what i have been doing if you feel hungry and you must eat something and you are dying for that bowl of ice cream just eat something else... like a 99% fat free french vinilla yogurt.. I think doing this is best because you are getting something much better in you and that craving goes away usually because you are no longer hungry.

if you have problems with fast food don't carry money on you and you can't buy it.

just avoiding food all together when you get cravings is really hard and i've found it easier if i slowly work my way away from eating instead of trying to avoid everything all together..

Well, first off, try to take your mind off of your stomach. Watching tv usually helps me, also, chewing gum or sucking on a mint helps really well. If there is a craving you just can't bare, try to eat something healthy like fruit, or a 100 calorie bar. GoOd LuCk!!!
