Starting A Babysitting Business With My Best Friend

Question Posted Saturday August 18 2007, 6:21 pm

My best friend and I are thinking of starting a babysitting business, since we're both certified in CPR and First Aid, and have taken a bunch of babysitting courses, too.

We were wondering how we could go about this.

Like what should we charge, should we baby-sit together, or on our own, how should we advertise, .etc.

Thank You :)

-Mariah-

I think you should put some fliers or something in your neighborhood. I think if it's just one little kid then one of you should baby-sit cause then if they pay little money you will have to split it with your friend if you both baby-sit. You could probably also ask your teachers to write recomendation letters saying how responsible you are and everything. That helps. You could charge like 5 an hour. Hope i helped.

you could advertise by making flyers and passing them out hang them round. once you baby sit for someone and you do a good job that person will tell someone else. baby sit alone unless there are alot of kids. once in awhile itd be fun for you and the kids for the two of you to baby sit together. pricing should go about the parents it depends on how many kids they have.

Hi Mariah!

All of your questions really depend on where you live and who you are sitting for, but I will answer them in the best way I can.

Advertising:
-Make flyers and put them in the mailboxes of people in your neighborhood (if that is allowed in your state)
-Make an add in the newspaper. Some newspapers allow you to do it for free, and it doesn't have to be anything fancy. Just write basic information and contact numbers.
-For flyers, put all the info that you have in your first paragraph, just write it in a professional way. Also, include contact information, and ages you're willing to sit for.

Rates
-This really depends on where you live and who you are sitting for. It also depends on whether or not you will be expected to do things like cooking or feeding pets. But if all you are doing is watching children, it could be anywhere from $5.00-$10.00 per child. Many sitters add on a dollar for each additional child.
-To avoid charging to much or too little, don't have a set rate. Have the parents just pay you whatever you deserve. If you have a problem with it later, you can either discuss it or stop sitting with the family.

Alone vs. Together
-It's really up to you. You would probably earn more money doing it yourself, but for some families, it could be easier to do it together. One family I know doesn't let one babysitter watch her kids because they are very wild and energenic. This would be the perfect job for a business like yours. That said, many parents would rather have just one sitter to make sure that all attention is on the kids and not the friend that is helping.

I hope this helps, and if you have anymore questions, feel free to write back. :)

Hannah

i know where your coming from i resently did this myself.
as far as what you should charge, base it on the amount of kids. i usually leave it up to the parents on how much they want to pay me, but i give them a range.
if you baby-sit together, it may be easier and more fun, but you'll have to split the money, so you wont make as much.
the best places to advertise is maybe on a bulletin board at a local elementary school, or at a YMCA.. another idea is to make up flyers saying the experience you have, the courses you have taken, and a little about yourself.. and walk around your neighborhood, and hand them out (only to people you know, and dont put personally information!!) if the people already have a babysitter.. they'll have your number if their babysitter is unavalable.. or if any of there friends need one!
goood luck! :)

I babysit a lot and I do 1 kid $5.00 and 2+ $7.50 I make flyers on my computer and give them to my all my neighbors. (I have a lot) I think by yourself is the best unless their are a lot of kids. Good Luck!!!

Babysitting charges vary depending on where you live. However i think that an average pay is around 5$ an hour.I think that if there are 2 people babysitting though that you should make it an even number so around 6$.When i babysit i usually don't set a priceand i let the parents decide what i deserve! Also some babysitting jobs may be easier so you could get payed less!

In order to Advertise just make a little sign on your computer or by hand that has:
-Babysitting (somewhere in big font,be creative)
-name
-phone #
-several pictures
-any courses or workshops you have taken!

I wouldn't post it on the side of the road instead just give some to people you know or know have kids!(eg. at a siblings soccer game)

As for working together or apart it all depends on what you and your friend want to do!

Hope i helped

First, it's great that you have CPR/First Aid certification!

Charge minimum wage for up to two kids (if you are by yourself). Each additional child would be .50 to $1.00 more per hour depending on age.

Any more than three kids, you should baby-sit together.

Advertising - you can actually goto USPS.com and have direct mail/postcards sent to your neighboors. Also, post flyers at community bulletin boards and YMCAs. Even some elementary schools will let you do that too!

Talk to your neighboors and network! Even, talk to your parents and have them ask their friends.

Set up a mypace page and dedicate it to your babysitting business. List your references as "friends" and blog about the activites/crafts that you do.

Have Fun!

well i am certified in that too. and persionaly i think that you should work seperatly because i will be best for both of you becuase you both will get what you both deserve instead of having to split your earnings. ya know, and it might start something between you in the long run like getting into fights over money, resposibilities ect. and i think that depending on how many kids there are you should start off like this

1 kid-5.00/hr
2 kids-6.00/hr
3 kids 7.00/hr
....

for advertising you should start off like babysitting maybe a next door neighbors kid. or one of your parents freinds kids, have them metion you to people they work with smaller kids. becuase they are bound to have other freinds that have kids and if you do a good enough job they might recomend you. thats what happen to me and i babysit 3 differnt familes now!!

good luck and hope i helped<33
