a pitbull in the state of massachusetts.

Question Posted Monday August 13 2007, 12:30 pm

okay, well my neighbor saved 13 puppies from a kill shelter in georgia all from different litters and we live in massachusetts. the puppy we were going to get is a mix. we're not sure but he looks like a pitbull and a mix of something else. we've had him over so i could play with him quite a few times and he was great. we had my moms boyfriend's 7 year old boy, and 9 or 10 year old boy over too and they played great with him. we dont own the dog yet but the insurence company called and told us that no one is permitted to have a pitbull in the state of massachusetts. and if we were to get him and he bit someone and they sued us, our house and everything would get taken away. but thats like stereotyping the dog. i know people th at have pitbulls and they've never bit someone. what am i supposed to do? this is the last puppy left and i realllyyyy want him. i don't know what to do. i dont want a different puppy.

People stereotype poor pitbulls. Not all of them are mean. It depends how they are brought up. If they are raised in a good family, treated very well and loved, it'll be a nice dog. :)

Pitbull ownership in some towns is against the law.
Mostly because people can't seem to understand that dogs are what they are raised to be. They blame the breed instead of the people who made them mean.
Laws vary from town to town within the states.

That being said the dog you are wanting is a MIXED
breed. I don't think you label him a pitbull. Just
say he is of undetermined breed. Problem should be solved. :)

I may be wrong, but I think your insurance company is being a little deceitful with you about the laws. As far as I know, no laws have gone into effect yet that completely ban pit bulls in Mass. There are certain rules that you have to follow if you want one though... like they have to be muzzled when off your property and you must have a large sign on your property saying "Beware of Pit Bull" or something along those lines. You can get fined for not following the rules and be sued if the dog does hurt someone (but that is the same for any dog). I would call a local shelter and ask them for more information and to get the exact facts.

If its impossible for you to get this dog, remember that there are so many other dogs out there that need a home and once you get to know them you will love them just as much.

Good Luck!

its not fair how people treat pitballs but it is just the way it is, either move to a different state with your pitbull, or give your dog to someone really awesome that lives in a state that allows pitbulls
