Make sure he knows his friends care about him and someone who hurt him like that isn't worth his time. Try to get him hang out with you and your other friends. Let him know that you'rs available to support him.

This is some true advice that works in this situation.
"Dont do something you'll regret later over some stupid girl whos not even thinking about you"
"Shes simply not worth it, dont waste you're time"
Since this girl cheated, she obviously has no respect or regrets. Shes probably out having fun and hes crying, messing up his life over some girl who wont matter in the future. Shes not beating herself up and she probably doesnt care that she hurt him, so why should he care about someone who doesnt care about him?
You could tell him that too.
"You'll find a great girl whos good enough for you who likes only you, and you'll forget about ____. You wont find her bawling youre eyes out smoking a cig. Thats not you at all"

I agree with the person below me. Let him know that if she cheated, she's obviously not good enough for your friend anyways.
He can do better.
There are other fish in the see, trust me =]
As for the smoking, tell him this isn't going to make the situation any better. It's only going to make it worse. Let him kow it could ruin his life.

Tell him that you are there to listen and you know how he felt about her. Let him know that she made the wrong decision by cheating on him and that it's her loss.

Put emphasis on the fact it wasn't his fault and nothing he did caused it and on a crucial point that he deserves better and will find it.

Tell him you aren't out to pass judgment but think he ought to quit smoking as it's dangerous and he can easily become addicted to it. Ultimately, it's his decision to quit or continue smoking. You can say your piece but only he can decide things for himself. I think he will appreciate you being a concerned friend

Tell him that if she cheated on him she isn't worth his time and she doesn't deserve a good guy like him. Tell him that smoking is not an answer. That it's just going to kill him. Above all just be willing to listen to his rants and be supportive but help him make the right choices.
