Hello I wanted to ask you a qucik question, I am so scared to get my wisdom teeth pulled, I am crying about it right now just thinking about it, I'm not scared for the segery I am scared for them to put me asleep. Also do they have to put an iv in you and if they do why? I hate needles is there a way around that? any advice would be great thank you so much
i know your scared, just try to keep your mind off of it, and tell yourself that its gonna be ok.
they do put an iv in you cause while your asleep thats how they get nutrition in you since you cant eat. they also put the stuff through the iv that makes you fall asleep.
theres really no way around the needles, but its ok cause its just one, which is the iv, and it feels just like a blood test.
it hurts a little just like a prick for like a second while theyre inserting it into you, but once its actually in you, you cant even feel it. then they put the stuff in there and you fall asleep, and when you wake up its all over.=]
what helps me when i get shots is i look away before they put it in me cause if you look at them put it in it seems like it hurts more. just look away, and you'll only feel a little prick for about a second.

They don't put an iv in you but they do put a needle in you. it is so you dont feel the pain of him pulling your teeth. And he needs you asleep so you are not moving every which way. After you wake it does hurt like a toothache and won't be able to eat anyhing but maybe jello or pudding. About a week you will be fine. Nothing about it should make you scared. I would be more scared if you didn't get the operation done. [ Advicelady6798's advice column | Ask Advicelady6798 A Question ]

You dont have to be put to sleep. I for one chose not to be. However, as far as I know, its either being put to sleep, or local anesthetic. The latter is applied using needles. So Im afraid that, to the best of my knowledge, its either being put to sleep or enduring some injections.
I have never been put to sleep, so I cant tell you what thats like. I have talked to people who have though, and they tend to describe it as a harmless experience.
As for the local anesthetic, it does hurt a bit when they apply the injections, but it isnt a very intense pain, and it passes right away.
One word of warning regarding local anesthetic, just so you are prepared in case you choose that road. You will hear everything that goes on in your mouth. Thats not the most pleasant thing I remember.
Now, either way, its nothing to worry about. Certainly not worth crying over. Both procedures are perfectly safe, and you wont feel a thing during the process itself. In the greater scheme of things this is not something worth worrying about all that much :)

I'm not a fan of needles either (in fact, I wont give blood because of it), but it wasn't a big deal for them to put the IV in. Also, they just start asking you questions and have you count, and the next thing you realize, you are awake and your teeth are out! The worst part of the entire thing is the fact that its hard to eat and it hurts if you accidentally bite down on your empty spots with food. Its fine if you're nervous (cuz I was), but take it from me that everything will turn out ok and not as bad as you are imagining. [ chuckweed007's advice column | Ask chuckweed007 A Question ]

Yes there has to be an IV put into you. There's no way around the needle, I asked because I hate needles too. But don't worry about it, it will be okay. The needle felt like a tiny prick. Just don't look at it. It's a really small needle and in a few seconds, you'll be knocked out. For me it was smaller than a sewing needle! Once you wake up, the needle is out and everything.
