What do you do if someone unexpectedly tells you that they love you? What if you're not sure that you love them back?
Worse, what if you're the one that tells someone those three words and they tell you they don't feel the same or make up some stupid reason for not wanting to say it back.
If you've ever been in either situation how did you handle it?
When my ex told me he loved me I couldn't think of anything but thanks. I was young and didn't know the meaning of love, I didn't want to lie but I wasn't sure if I would be telling the truth. Now, a year later, I'm hesitent to say it because I don't want to put someone in the same awkward position I was in back then. I don't know how I'd react if they said thanks or that they didn't feel the same way. But I now understand what love means and I think I really, truly love him.

Cosmo (as in Cosmopolitan the magazine) says to just smile and give him a kiss as a response. They say to not say, "Thanks" because that's kind of like. I'm sure he knows that he may be putting pressure on you when he says those three words and you don't know what to say back. We don't know what exactly he's expecting. Okay, about your current situation, I think you should tell him you love him and then quickly switch the subject so he doesn't feel obligated to respond until he feels ready. Or drop hints or if you write a letter, you can write the closing as "Love you, _____". You can let him know, that's okay, maybe he's afraid to bring it up first too, but don't leave space in the conversation for him to reply back immediately because he may have the same problem as you did before. You'll give him something to think about when you tell him and hopefully he can express his feelings when he feels the time is right. [ hotpotato's advice column | Ask hotpotato A Question ]

When someone you truly care about says i love you, it means that they care for you, and do anything for you to have the best life that you can have.
