Highschool and backpacks?

Question Posted Wednesday July 18 2007, 12:43 am

I'm starting highschool in august, and i dont know anyone or anything about the school. And I know this one girl who is a few years older than me and she goes to a diff highschool, but she said its like "uncool" to carry a backpack. She said she usually carries like a big messenger bag type thing. Is this true? And do i need a backpack on the first day? thanks.

on the first day bring just a notebook. If you don't feel like carrying your notebook all day then get a nike bag. but if you hae AP and GT classes then you might want to be smart and carry a book bag.

all the "cool" kids at my school carry a backpack.

And if you're going to take "rigorous" classes.. it might be smart to bring a backpack. "Rigorous" teachers like to give out "rigorous" homework.

I might be repeating the same things other people have said, but I've started middle school with no friends either and I made a whole bunch of great friends! Just don't worry about what's "cool" just be yourself everyone has their different styles, and surely if you have to carry many things home from school, all of it could be very heavy in a messenger bag and it will hurt your shoulder! If you're going to carry something to school on the first day, for example, a binder, you probably won't need a backpack, but if you don't want to carry a binder go ahead and bring a backpack! (maybe a small backpack)

You need to worry about what's functional and useful to you... not what's "cool." No one cares whether or not you have a backpack. You should focus on the things you NEED to do well in high school.

Obviously you'll need some type of bag to carry your stuff in. Whether it's a backpack or messenger bag doesn't matter. Just choose whichever is most convienient to carry your things. You will most likely have a locker, so it's not like you'll have to carry around the bag the whole day.

You won't need a backpack on the first day. Just bring one notebook, one folder, and one pencil. The first day is simply filling out forms and getting seating charts so you won't need much else.

Good luck!

i didnt worry about whats coool and whats not cause when you do that you can get caught up with the wrong people and its just all bad news
oh and the first day you really dont need to carry anything cause its the first day and all you do is sit there and go through each class and they tell you what everything is about

mm. in my high school its the same way. most people have like big messenger bags from american eagle or hollister etc. also alot of people have draw-string bags. there a big thing in my school. most of tyhe times the lockers are to small to fit backpacks. even if they dont seem big. most lockers in high schools are only about 8 inches wide. on the forst day you dont really need to worry about it on the first day. just go and check it out. ask your friends wehat they are gonna buy and then you wont be alone in a sense. dont worry about it, if people do make fun of it, its just caz they have nothing better to do then pick on the new kids.

I don't see why it would be "uncool" to have a backpack. There might be people in your school who think otherwise, but really, I doubt that it'll be a big deal.

I recommend against using a large messenger bag as your school bag because the whole load is on one shoulder, and you might end up with lopsided shoulders when you're older. Now that's definitely uncool!

Go shop for a nice one with your friends. That way, you'll have a cool backpack for school.
