When they make you pee in a cup it is to try to detect some diseases.. but keep in mind, that they don't nesessarily mean hiv/aids.... actually those are detected through blood work....
But getting back to the urine, thats just to check for any internal mishaps, to see if everything like urine related i guess i can say is ok. Make sure you don't have any sort of infection, if your pancreas is functioning well, etc.... =)
and just so you know, pretty much from now on almost every time that you go to the doctors for a check up or something along those iles, you'll have to pee in a cup! =/ such a pain, i know.. but gotta do what you gotta do =/ haha!
hope this helps!

Urine tests can show many things and problems
you may be having.
It can be tested for diabetes, pregnancy,
infections of many kinds & kidney problems.
To name just a few.
Most doctors offices aren't equipped for drug testing. It isn't something they do routinely.
The office I worked in wouldn't even do them for employee physicals because it was such a hassle. Those have to be packaged up in your presence (at least they used to be) so no one can come back and claim it was tampered with. ]
They're not lying, and they won't just "happen to notice" any drugs you're taking. Don't worry about it. ]
If they said they were checking for diseases, that's what they were doing. Generally, your doctor/nurse wouldn't lie to you about what they're doing.
No doubt, if you are on a certain something, they could pick up traces of in your urine. ]
