when i talk i use the word "like" soo much. its so annyoing and i hate it. i serously can't tell one story without using the word "like" at least 5 times. how can i stop this habbit?
viciousxpunk answered Monday July 9 2007, 1:15 pm: i used to do this A LOT. it drove my mom crazy. what she started doing was telling me every time i said "like." by making me aware every time i said it, i started to think about what i was about to say and chose to use different words. ask your friends to let you know when you say it, that might help. you have to use the process of reward & punish. reward yourself when you're speaking & don't use the word like. for example, go one day without saying 'like' unnecessarily and reward yourself with something you really want, like a craving.
i myself have this problem, and i told my friends to slap me / punch me everytime i say like unnecessarily. it gets the job done. i get so angry when they slap me that i force myself to stop saying it. it really helps.
but, for when you're not around your friends & talking on aim, copy & paste each conversation onto a microsoft word document, go to "Edit" (at the top) - "Find" & then type in the word "like." it helps see how much you're improving. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]

Also, say like 50 times in a row. You will get sick of the word and you wont say it as often. Think about what you are going to say before you say it too.
Hope I helped. [ ASAPcamille's advice column | Ask ASAPcamille A Question ]
