Darkhelp66466 answered Sunday July 8 2007, 1:13 pm: i would go see your pediatrician and let them prescribe you something or go see a psychiatrist. its not for crazy people only. millions of americans are insomniacs, its not that uncommon. i listen to harbor mist when i go to sleep, its got waves in the background and then classical music. it also might help if you do a little yoga or meditation before bed. it might sound stupid but its not. Breathing exercises can do wonders for you. And while counting sheep may not be great count as high as you can in your head with your eyes closed in your bed at night and it will make you tired. no sweets before bed and no caffeine after i'd say 7:30. don't read or watch tv a half hour before bed because you mind is focused on the topic and you wont be able to sleep with your mind thinking about it. before you go to sleep try just laying in your bed and staring up at the ceiling, counting your breaths. i don't really understand what your afraid of, but your never too old for a night light if you need one. thats not dumb either. everyone has different sleeping conditions, you just need to adjust to yours. chakra answered Sunday July 8 2007, 8:41 am: I have this trouble sometimes too, before bed take a bath, i find radox armatherpy bubble bath works, its especially designed to help you relax and sleep.
There are also some sleep sprays you can spray on your pillow at night, i haven't tried these yet but i will do. Radox do one but you should be able to find out other sleep sprays if you search in google.
Also, i'm not sure where you live but here in the UK we have baby channel on Sky in the kids section.
It's great because it has programmes especially to aid sleep, its for babys but works on everyone.
Theres cartoons but also relaxing music, footage of waterfalls and rainforests, and fish.
Listening to the radio helps too, really quietly but just so you can hear it, i find OneWord radio realy good because there are no songs, it's just people reading books.
You say you get scared at bedtime, i suffer with panic, it comes on alot at night, especially when its silent and pitch black so i always sleep with the tv on, silent or just with a tiny bit of sound. I darken the picture too so it doesnt disturb my boyfriend too much and i put something on thats kind of comforting, i leave it on those early morning quiz shows now, i watch my friends dvds though before i settle down as they really comfort me. beckyboo answered Saturday July 7 2007, 10:37 pm: It used to take me a long time to fall asleep also. This yoga instructor once taught me this trick that actually works for me, though. What you do is clench your whole body, from your shoulders to your fists to your toes, hold for about 5 full seconds, then release. As you release, just imagine all the thoughts in your head going out as well. Do it several times over and over. It sounds stupid, but when you have too many thoughts in your head, you cant concentrate on sleeping because of whatevers worrying you, or exciting you, or keeping you awake.
hollister_lover09 answered Saturday July 7 2007, 10:29 pm: i agree with the person below me, but dont read or watch tv in your bed. bc when you do "actions" in your bed, your brain gets to thinking your bed is where you enjoy yourself, not sleep. hope i helped<3 [ hollister_lover09's advice column | Ask hollister_lover09 A Question ]
xojessii answered Saturday July 7 2007, 10:28 pm: try doing a little bit of yoga before you go to sleep and get really relaxed.
then when you are in bed turn off all of your lights and tv and get comfy. then start at your toes and squinch up all of your muscles. hold for 5 seconds then release. then your ankles. then your calves. and keep moving up and up and up. until your reach your neck. and then reverse it.
and if that doesnt help i always fall asleep when thinking. like i think about the day and how it was and just think about what i wish i could have done and what you liked best.
