ddr -> weight loss?

Question Posted Thursday July 5 2007, 11:30 pm

i have the video game ddr (dance dance revolution) and i would definitely get bored and lose motivation quickly doing a regular running/walking workout. so do you think if i did ddr for a set time daily or like 5 days a week that i could lose a few pounds? im only looking to lose maybe 5, at most 10 pounds. im not in a rush but the sooner the better. im trying to eat healthier also, but thats a different story. if it would be a good cardio workout, how long should i do it for daily? a half hour? 45 minutes? im willing to try to fit it into my days if it will help. thanks

If you're moving, you're burning calories--it's as simple as that.

The number of calories you burn, and therefore the effectiveness of the exercise, depends on the intensity you choose. If you're willing to really work--sweat, tire yourself out--then you will see results. If you just sort of bop around, you'll be better off than if you were just sitting around, but it won't be a particularly good cardio workout.

Do what you can to start with, and build up. It's hard to make recommendations without knowing your current level of athleticism. Push yourself just past the point of being tired, without exhausting yourself. A general guide of intensity is to be able to carry on a conversation, but unable to sing.

Best of luck. And remember--any exercise is good exercise (provided it doesn't hurt)!

Yes you can loose weight from it, but usually you have to go on heavy mode. When I first got it I was obsessed for the first week and I played for like an hour each day and I lost 6 pounds. Of course, you have to be good at it (Heavy mode) because the faster you do the more calories you'll burn. So what I'm basically saying is go on heavy mode (or at least medium) and play for like an hour each day for a week and you'll loose around 5-10 pounds. Good luck.

I'm not trying to be offensive, but get off your ass and do something. DDR will help you lose some water weight from sweating (5-10 lbs at most) but it's water weight, you'll gain it back within a week. Get active, ride a bike, skateboard, scooter, join a sport, etc. And a nice bit of information is that tone muscle maintains itself by constantly burning calories, so once you lose the fat and work the muscles you'll keep the pounds off. Good luck.

well its depends on how good you are at it , bc like if you suckk at it then its not gonna be that good of an excerise but if your good at it its an amazing woorkout.

A few years ago there was a guy on the news, and he lost like 70 pounds using DDR. So yeah, it is a good workout. Depending on how fast you want to lose the weight would determine how long. Maybe like a half hour, five times a week you should see results soon.

There's a work out mdoe that lets you know how many calories you're burning =]
I'd say it would definently help if you're not doing it on the easiest level.
And 3 days a week, for about 45 minutes I'd say.
