im going to be hiking on the appalachain trail with my dog and my dad. my dog is about 5 and i want to know if there is anything i would need to bring for my dog in the case that he maybe gets hurt. i want to form sort of a first aid kit for him. my dogs are like human beings to me and i want to make sure he's taken care of.

Tweezers. Dogs often times get splinters, and tweezers help to pull them out.
Hydrogen Peroxide. If your dog gets a cut, clean it out with Hydrogen Peroxide.
Cotton balls. Perfect for dabbing at wounds. You can also use the cotton for the Hydrogen Peroxide.
Gauze. If your dog gets a cut, wrap it with gauze (after cleaning it), not too tight!! But tight enough so that it will help put A LITTLE pressure on the cut.
Adhesive tape. It is mostly used to keep bandages in place. Just make a ring at each end of the bandaged site. Make sure that half the tape is on the gauze, and the other is touching the skin. Again, make sure its not on too tight because its soooo easy to block off circulation.
Vet Wrap. This stuff you put over the gauze. It is quite tough, and dogs will have a hard time chewing it off. When you put it on: unwrap it a couple of feet, then roll it back up loosely, than wrap over the gauze. MAKE SURE IT IS NOT TOO TIGHT!!!! Vet Wrap is a bit dangerous to use because it is so stretchy, so it tends to tighten. Put it on very carefully, but again not too loosely because you don't want your bandage falling apart. And never ever put vet wrap on by itself: it should always go over gauze. It sticks to itself, so you don't have to worry about taping it down.
Scissors. For cutting off long hair around the cut, and for taking off the bandage.
Hope I helped, and hopefully you won't have to use this kit!!
Oh, and I completely forgot: when you are makng a bandage, always make sure it goes over a joint. For example, if you were to cut your arm between your wrist and your elbow, you have the choice of making your bandage go up over your elbow, or down to the wrist. Personally, I would choose elbow. Maybe a little doggy jumper if he gets cold? I'm being serious lol. Bringing dry treats to keep their energy high and if they start getting lazy to motivate them to keep walking. Probably a bandage would be good incase the dogs leg gets hurt. I dont know much about dog aid because my dog is to lazy and fat to do anything so thats all i can say.
