Marijuana

Question Posted Wednesday June 27 2007, 7:23 am

Is it possible to overdose on marijuana? I'm f/16/47kg and very small. I was at a mates place on the weekend and they were passing round a homemade bong. I had tried it smoking weed in a very small dose before and nothing ever happened. I smoke cigarettes but even after one I feel dizzy for a few minutes. So anyway I smoked a cone and about 2 minutes after I did it I started tripping out so badly and I was panicking and I didn’t know what I was doing or saying and I didn’t know what was real. I couldn’t see and I think I kept slipping in and out of consciousness. I didn’t know how long it had been happening or what I was doing. It felt like I was having a stroke. It was the worst feeling ever. My head was hot and fuzzy, I couldn’t see, it felt like I was blacking out, my ears and mouth felt like they were bleeding, I had pins and needles everywhere and my thumbs and forearm muscles were clenched so tightly I had no control over my muscles. I had to get my friend to massage my arms and help me drink water. I didn’t know if I was hot or cold. People had to keep talking to me so I would stay awake. I was so scared. So what happened to me? Is it possible to overdose? Why did this happen?

no you can not overdose on marijuana but if you dont smoke it regularly or haven in a long while and smoke a large amount it can cause your heart beat to increase and give you the sweats and a slight fever but no one has ever died from smoking marijuna in order to over dose ud have to smoke at least 3 times ur body weight in grams wich is physicaly impossible. just smoke in smaller quantites untill you get use to it

You can't overdose on Marijuana. Research shows that no one has ever died from it. It was probably some really strong weed and since your body isn't used to it, it was easier for you to get high. So I'm assuming you were extremely high. When I've tried it, it was very hard for me to move my muscles or even concentrate. I wouldn't suggest trying it again seeing as the effects it had on you.

in order to actually overdose on marijuana it is estimated, (based on mice studies) you would need to smoke 4 times your body weight of marijuana (75% potency) in one hit, with 100% absortion.

and logically you'd die from not being able to breathe before dieing from marijuana.

nobody, in the history of history, before, during, or after jesus walked on this earth has overdosed on marijuana, it's just not potent enough.

i do have some friends that are just sensitive to weed, which is a likely scenario.

ill go through diagnostics lol:

head was hot and fuzzy. - when you smoke, your inhaling burning embers into your lungs, not to mention, well, smoke. this cuts the amount of oxygen that gets to your body, so the air cant cool you down, the heat goes to your head, to try and be released. (65% of body heat leaves through your head, learned that in boyscouts)

couldn't see/blacking out - the blood was rushing to your head in a complete and constant rush, overflowing your eyes, then leaving again.

ears and mouth "bleeding" - once again your hot, your going to sweat, your high, so your paranoid, and if everythings going to be 10x better, its going to seem 10x worse.

hot or cold - sweating takes a lot out of yah. when you sweat sometimes it "sticks" to your body. when this happens it coats you and insulates. however if there was a breeze (or if someone just walked by, even if you just moved.) the sweat would evaporate causing a chilling effect.

water and arm massage - this was one of the better things to do. water to help replenish your lost water, and massage to get the blood back into your arms and what not to get that out of your head.

pins and needles - you got me there, marijuana can make you hallucinate, thats my only explanation.

****if i was anyone with a say on any of this, i'd double back to the top and stay with my assumption with saying that you are sensitive.****

if you want a link for more about it heres a few websites.

this states that marijuana increases your heart rate up to 4x the normal rate. (why you were hot)

Honey, if marijuana were consistent, it would be easy to measure the amount consumed with a person's weight, and calculate how much is needed to "feel a buzz" and how much is too much. But marijuana is NOT made by a phamacuetical company and it is not government regulated, like liquor is. So you have no idea, when you share some marijuana with someone.....where it came from, how strong it is, and what it is cut with! Often Marijuana is mixed with chemicals to make it stronger and some of them are toxic. This is true for all illegal drugs. I know, I tried this stuff when I was young, many many years ago...but somehow things were different then. Most of the people involved in the illicit drug trade were people who also wanted to get high. The stuff was generally safe, because they smoked it too. Today there are many people who just want to make a buck, and they don't even care if they kill people doing it. So my advice would be not to try any drugs again, since you had such a very bad reaction.

ammo answered Wednesday June 27 2007, 9:34 am:
An overdose from marijuana is possible but it should be noted that it would take a VERY loarge amount to do this. to give you an example of how much is needed - imagine the amount a person would need to get stoned. Then imagine that amount multiplied by 40,000 times, that's how much you'd need to take to overdose (the ratio for alcohol is 1-4 and 1-10 and 5000+ people die from alcohol overdose every year). It's safe to say there has never been an incident of a person dying from an overdose from marijuana.

However, what happen to you was just the effects of the drug, which sounds pretty bad to say the least. Not everyone reacts to them the same and it doesn't always have the exact same effect. It's certainly a lucky thing you had friends close by who you trust otherwise with the state you were in, things could have been a lot worse. Personally I would suggest not bothering with the stuff again but that would be your own choice.

Hope all that was able to help (and glad your okay too). :]

No, it's impossible to overdose on marijuana. Don't take so much next time.
