Gymnists!

Question Posted Friday June 22 2007, 1:47 pm

I need a faster roundoff back handspring. I'm taking gymnastics for my cheerleading team, and my tumbling all seems very slowww. This is going to be a problem, once I start trying to learn a roundoff tuck.
So, what can I do to make my tumbling faster/my roundoffs faster? I have been taking running starts, too..

well i had the same problem and my coach told me to be as stiff as a board during the roundoff part. but for running, take long strides as you run and when you hurdle, instead of trrying to make it higher, make it go out more. snap your feet down for like a split second after the roundoff. good luck =]

sdcutie717 pretty much covered what you need to do. To add onto what she said though, try it with ankle weights- I did that when I was learning how to do mine faster and also to heighten my jumps. :)

oo girl... i can definatly help you with this one. when i started cheering i had the same problem, but now i have a double full.

you really need to focus on putting as much power as you can into running and your roundoff. run as hard as you can and lean into your roundoff as if your looking to faceplant onto the floor. really try to snap your feet down behind you and KEEP EVERYTHING AS TIGHT AS POSSIBLE! when snapping out of your backhandspring, try to think as if your pulling your stomach in towards your hands while keeping your legs straight. snap your feet as close to your hands as possible while keeping a hollow body position. so basically if you go into it with a lot of power and keep everything AS TIGHT AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN, you will definatly notice a difference.

this is my specialty, so if you ever have any other questions about anything to do with cheerleading, i can help you. ive cheered my whole life =)
