How to control your own dream?

Question Posted Monday June 18 2007, 8:32 am

Say if you wanted to dream about something specific, like a person or a character what are ways you could do that? Like what do you think about/do in the day so you can dream about something you want to at night?

You can't control what you dream.. and I may be incorrect in what I am about to say but I find that what you think about while you're awake and as you drift off to sleep sometimes influences your dreams, because you think while you're asleep, which is why people say "sleep on it" when they want someone to think about something.
Also a good technique for remembering dreams is starting sort of a "dream diary" where, after you wake up, you write everything you remember. And eventually your ability to remember dreams will improve, that is; if you keep it up.

I think what you want is lucid dreaming. Here's an online course for that:

Soundslikepink is wrong, it's remarkably easy to control your dreams, I picked up lucid dreaming in about a week.

There's absolutely no way you can control your dreams. Your dreams are made up of random thoughts - a part of your brain that only opens up when you're asleep. Think of your brain as a computer. Different parts of your brain are made up of different folders. Throughout the day, certain memories (people, sounds, visuals, colors, thoughts, fears, conversations, etc.) are put into a folder that can only be accessed when you're asleep. Since the human mind is incapable of selecting the contents that go into that folder, we're unable to determine what our dreams will be.

Don't try to think about it too much.

Focus about it throughout the day and imagine yourself dreaming about it later that day/night.

Write it down alot. Keep your mind thinking that you wan't to have that dream and that you will have that dream. Imagine the dream in your mind and meditate on the thought throughout the day. Before you go to bed write down what your thinking about and what it is that you wan't to dream about, and repeat to yourself mentally and/or vocally that you wan't and will have that dream.

This might not work in one try, just keep trying, these are actual dream control techniques and theories that can work.

And if you wan't control of the dream when your in it the only way to do so, is to realize its a dream and use the same method by thinking about yourself dreaming at night and controlling the dream, prep your mind so it isn't fooled by a dream and tell yourself "it is a dream" before you go to bed.

your dreams are usually about the last thing you think of at night..so i guess just thinking about them but its kinda hard because your mind wanders at night.

hope this helps!
