when you are blocking in volleyball, what are your eyes supposed to be watching? the hitter?? the ball?? up at the ceiling?? down at the floor?? or straight ahead???
... I just got back from a seven hour volleyball practice, infact we concentrated on blocking today.
Remember this pattern:
Ball, SETTER, Ball, HITTER, Ball.
(every time ball comes in mind, remember the bottom of the ball)
The first ball is after the primary pass. Then the SETTER recieves the ball, ... watch the ball to the HITTER, then ball as it hits your hands.
When the setter recieves the pass, concentrate on the setter. Listen to her and try to focus on where she is about to set. Some small clues to give away her set will be shoulder position, any arches in her back and or if she calls out middle/outside or 1/4 depending on the position she's setting.
When blocking you want to start out watching the hitters shoulders. This helps you locate where he hit is most likely going to go and this also helps you line up with your other blockers to sucessfully block the hit.
When the ball has been hit concentrate on the very bottom of the ball. Penetrate the net and keep your hands open and firm. Follow the very bottom of the ball to your hands then as it enters play again.
