really, gay does mean happy,
in my opinion, it does.
and if you're "gay" as in you like the same sex, you're homosexual

Both. Gay isn't the most proper term for people who like same sex. It's more known as [homosexuality], but gay also means happy.

gay used to mean happy like in 40's -50's and even before that.. if you would recall the flintstones theme song.. "we'll have a gay oollld timeee.." we'll have a happy time.. that's what it USED to mean. Now gay does mean gay as in liking the same sex.. sucks when words get turned around, doesn't it?

It both. But people usually prefer to say it to someone if they're being stupid. It's rarely used to call someone happy :)

There are three commonly accepted definitions for "gay."

The "correct" definition is happy. The word gay used to be used just to imply this. If you're reading a book written before the 1960-1970s, generally gay will mean happy.

Gay also means homosexual, as in a person attracted to members of their own gender. It came into circulation as a slang term when homosexuality had to be kept very low-key. It's become a wildly accepted label for alternative sexual orientation.

Finally, gay is used in common slang to mean stupid. Many people (homosexual and not) find this offensive (and I agree with them). Saying "that's so gay" or related things implies that there's something wrong with homosexuality. Taken in context, "that's so black" or "that's so mexican" are incredibly offensive. Using gay to mean stupid is bigoted in the same way...but is somehow more socially acceptable (just like discrimination against gays is more accepted than racial discrimination).

:-) Hope that helped.

A long, long time ago, before anybody decided that other peoples' marriages were there business and religion was more about loving one another and doing the right thing than making money and spreading hatred, nobody really had a word for a homosexual person, or "gay" person. Everyone was basically just considered a person. So gay meant "happy".

Now, however, there are these things called Equal Rights, and everybody wants them. The people who considered themselves homosexual decided that they no longer wanted to be treated as dirty, less than human, damned-to-hell freaks (because that's what happened over the years), and decided that they would make themselves look like something positive. So they said, "Well, we're happy to be the way we are. In fact, we're downright GAY!", and from then on, "gay" meant homosexual, instead of happy. In recent years, it has adopted the meaning of "stupid"...I guess to protect the equal rights of the mentally handicapped.

Anyway, I might have stretched the truth there, but that's basically the concise history of the G-word. I don't know why I just called it the G-word, but it seemed like the right thing to do at the time. Hope I helped!
