gymnastics?

Question Posted Tuesday May 29 2007, 8:51 pm

Um if you never went to gymnastics before, can you still join even though you're thirteen or older?

I wanted to join gymnastics so just get a little flexible when I was little but we had no money and now when I excercise and try to kick up the highest i can get is a kindergarden's height even though i'm skinny.

You can definitely start gymnastics, at any age! Some gyms even have classes for adults. It's great for your body; the strength and flexibility you gain will help you in other sports as well; and besides that, it's fun!

It's true that some gyms group all beginners together, meaning you may be with younger kids. But many gyms have beginning classes just for older girls. Call all the gyms in your area and ask how their classes are structured as far as age divisions.

If it's really important to you to be with girls your own age, you might try a tumbling class (which most gyms offer). You won't do beam, bars or vault, but you may use a trampoline, and you'll learn cartwheels, roundoffs, flip flops, etc, while gaining strength and flexibility. Tumbling classes are usually filled with girls your age who are wanting to improve their tumbling for cheerleading.

You don't have to be aiming for the olympics to enjoy gymnastics. Give it a try and have fun!

You can, but if you did you would be put in the lowest level with the four and five year olds. I started gymnastics when I was five, I wouldn't recomend starting at thirteen.
